Unity nurses strive to innovate and elevate behavioral health nursing through holistic treatment of our patients. Unity nurses apply their behavioral health specialty through high-level critical thinking, individualized patient care plans, early interventions, specialized assessments, and de-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques. Unity nurses maintain their physical health skills as part of our holistic treatment including attending to physical health needs such as assessment, wound care, and phlebotomy. Our patients are highly acute and often require varied and intensive interventions to start stabilization. Our four adult units serve voluntary and involuntary patients 18 years and older. Adult unit patient capacity ranges from 17 to 25 private and shared beds. Our inpatient care goes beyond medication management. Our care includes specialized nursing care, care management, peer support services, multiple groups throughout the day, animal therapy, and garden therapy. Nursing is an essential part of the interdisciplinary treatment team that collaborates with the patient to create a journey to recovery.

The Nurse Manager oversees all daily operational activities, including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget; ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care; and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24/7 responsibility for all department functions, including maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. The manager ensures that staff are educated and competent to care for the patients under their care, and works effectively with physicians, peers and other Legacy leadership to meet the strategic objectives of Legacy.

Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center has a 16-bed Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit located 12 miles SW of Portland. Our ICU provides care to patients who are seriously ill or at high risk of developing life-threatening problems as a result of complex medical processes, renal or respiratory failure or patients who have suffered strokes, heart attacks or undergone invasive surgery.

Surgical Orthopedic Telemetry (Unit 43) is located on the fourth floor of Emanuel Medical Center. Number of beds: Surgical Orthopedic Telemetry (Unit 43) has eleven private beds. All rooms have capacity for remote telemetry monitoring.

The Legacy Good Samaritan Kern Critical Care Unit, the first Intensive Care Unit opened in Oregon, is a 28 bed ICU that provides care to patients who are at high risk of developing life threatening problems as a result of complicated medical processes, renal or respiratory failure, GI bleed, myocardial infarction, life threatening dysrhythmias, congestive heart failure, pulmonary edema, or related cardiovascular disorders, neurologic dysfunction, or complex surgical or angiographic procedures and renal transplants. Kern Critical Care Unit is the proud winner of three national awards for unit design.

As Oregon’s first and only Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) we provide emergent care to people experiencing a behavioral health crisis. For our patients, the PES is often the first step to recovery and treatment. Our patients are highly acute and often require varied and intensive interventions to start stabilization.
