Integral to emergency services with 24/7 nursing, care management, and provider coverage, the nursing work is fast-paced and dynamic. Unity Center features a Psychiatric Emergency Service, where patients receive care by specialists in behavioral health in a calming, non-hospital-like setting. Unity also has inpatient care for adults and teens. It is a collaboration between Adventist Health, Kaiser Permanente, Legacy Health and Oregon Health & Science University.   The Nurse Manager oversees all daily operational activities, including departmental planning related to staffing, scheduling, and budget; ensuring appropriate systems and processes for the efficient delivery of care; and ensuring safe/high quality care and an outstanding experience for patients and their families. This leadership role assumes 24/7 responsibility for all department functions, including maintaining effective interprofessional communication and a positive work environment that supports and embraces the principles of shared governance. Unity nurses apply their behavioral health specialty through high-level critical thinking, individualized patient care plans, early interventions, specialized assessments, and de-escalation and motivational interviewing techniques. Unity nurses maintain their physical health skills as part of our holistic treatment including attending to physical health needs such as assessment, wound care, and phlebotomy. Our four adult units serve voluntary and involuntary patients 18 years and older. Adult unit patient capacity ranges from 17 to 25 private and shared beds. Our inpatient care goes beyond medication management. Our care includes specialized nursing care, care management, peer support services, multiple groups throughout the day, animal therapy, and garden therapy. Nursing is an essential part of the interdisciplinary treatment team that collaborates with the patient to create a journey to recovery.

For our patients, the PES is often the first step to recovery and treatment. Our patients are highly acute and often require varied and intensive interventions to start stabilization. Integral to emergency services with 24/7 nursing, care management, and provider coverage, the nursing work is fast-paced and dynamic.
