Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel is a regional center for the care of infants, children and teens. We offer unrivaled pediatric expertise in a state-of-the-art facility designed exclusively for children. From routine care to the most complex cases, pediatricians and families trust us to provide the most advanced medical and surgical care for kids.
Works as a member of the Comfort Care Team to provide complete comfort care consultation (assessment, diagnosis, and recommendations or treatment) on patients with life threatening illnesses. Assigned consultive responsibility for palliative care of patients under professional medical leadership from palliative medicine physicians. Seeks the expert opinion or advice of a physician whenever the incumbent decides a case falls outside the scope authorized by policies and protocol. Plans and implements treatment and a physician reviews and confirms health care goals for patients.
The Palliative Care RN typically retains consultive responsibility for the patient throughout the course of the treatment, provides the physical examination, the diagnosis, and the health care plan, determines when the patient has recovered, and helps facilitate transfer of care. The Palliative Care RN may refer the patient to physicians for consultation or to specialized health resources for treatment but retains responsibility for clinical management as well as any subsequent modification.
The Palliative Care RN assists in education of hospital staff in palliative care.
Education:
As required by licensure. BSN or degree in progress strongly preferred. BSN may be required for specific assignments; experienced RNs without a BSN may be hired based on clinical experience with approval of the site CNO.
Experience:
A minimum of 2 years of experience in hospice or inpatient palliative nursing.
Knowledge/Skills:
Demonstrated ability of positive interpersonal and communication skills with colleagues, patients, families, physicians and the community.
ELNEC Training preferred.
Current applicable state RN license required.
Palliative Nursing Certification or eligibility with intent to certify.
